Ladies of Distinction
Ladies-only fundraiser for the Marina Dalglish Appeal
Ladies from across the region joined forces for an evening of fundraising at a unique benefit held for the Marina Dalglish Appeal. The evening was instrumented by Dianne Brathwaite and Margaret Walker to raise funds and awareness for the appeal.
The evening saw guests enjoy flutes of sparkling wine upon arrival at stylish Allerton eatery, The Patio, donated for the evening by restaurant owner, Jane Hoban and adorned with pink balloons and fabulous white and pink lilies especially for the occasion.
Prior to the three-course fundraiser dinner, Diane and Margaret encouraged guests and sponsors to donate as much as possible for the Appeal, having gathered a selection of luxury prizes, included Jo Malone, a £500 Boodles voucher, Yaffé vouchers, a handbag courtesy of Cricket Liverpool while Links of London provided a beautiful bracelet, just a small selection of the top prizes up for grabs, the starlet of the fundraiser was a limited edition silver necklace on a pink ribbon, commissioned by Marina Daglish herself and designed by Boodles; won by Lucy Edwards on the evening.
The evening was a great success thanks to the time and efforts of Dianne and Margaret and all that contributed. Over £5,000 was raised on the night through tickets and the evening’s raffle.
All money raised will go towards building a new Radiotherapy Centre at Aintree & Fazakerley University Hospital, which will bring treatment closer to patients in the city and provide access to key facilities much-needed in handling cancer.
Birkdale resident Marina Dalglish, wife of former Liverpool FC star Kenny Dalglish, set up The Marina Dalglish Appeal in 2004, a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and has since pioneered projects in the region to ensure better facilities for those diagnosed with the illness.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, with an MBE awarded in the New Year’s Honours List 2009, as well as accolades for her achievements to date, including raising £1.5 million to build a chemotherapy centre at Aintree University Hospital.
