Sparkling Charity Dinner Dance

The Grand Dinner Dance, held in aid of charity, was a glittering affair from start to finish.
The dance for the Lee Sharpe Foundation took place at Mere Golf & Country Club in Knutsford and saw a procession of celebrities turn out, raising £25,000 for Ambassadors in Sport (AIS), which helps disadvantaged children in the UK and South Africa, Christies Cancer Hospital and Juvenile Diabetes.

Chester label ChloBo donated thousands of pounds worth of jewellery to help raise money for the event. Chloe Moss, the jewellery designer behind ChloBo, contributed the jewellery for the charity auction after discovering the amazing work ex-Manchester United winger, Lee Sharpe does through his Foundation.

Chloe says, “It was great to be able to contribute to Lee’s Grand Charity Dinner Dance and it was an amazing night. He is really passionate about helping under-privileged children through sport and his enthusiasm is infectious.”

Think Pink Event

In The Pink

A sea of cerise derrières took to the streets of Manchester in June for The Genesis Appeal’s ‘Keep Fit & Pink 10km Walk’.

Among the 180 enthusiastic teams, who donned shocking pink tutus to raise an estimated £75,000 for the breast cancer prevention charity, were Shameless actress,

Rebecca Atkinson, Coronation Street star, Sally Whittaker, Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Alison Firth and TV presenter Gordon Burns.

The event, which saw Albert Square take on a carnival-like atmosphere with stilt walkers and a glamorous, feather-attired dance troop courtesy of The Birdcage, was part of the charity’s wider ‘Keep Fit and Pink’ campaign, which promotes the benefits of healthy eating and living for the prevention of breast cancer.

Marina Dalglish Grand Ball

A staggering amount of almost £200,000 was raised at the annual Marina Dalglish Appeal Grand Ball. Held once again at Knowsley Hall, guests were entertained by the infamous Swann Band until the early hours of the morning.

The marquee looked spectacular and was decorated by Liz Taylor of TLC. All money raised will be going towards the appeal’s new and exciting challenge in conjunction with Clatterbridge to raise £5,000,000 to bring Radiotherapy to Liverpool which is hoped will be open by 2010.

Ladies of Distinction

Ladies-only fundraiser for the Marina Dalglish Appeal

Ladies from across the region joined forces for an evening of fundraising at a unique benefit held for the Marina Dalglish Appeal. The evening was instrumented by Dianne Brathwaite and Margaret Walker to raise funds and awareness for the appeal.

The evening saw guests enjoy flutes of sparkling wine upon arrival at stylish Allerton eatery, The Patio, donated for the evening by restaurant owner, Jane Hoban and adorned with pink balloons and fabulous white and pink lilies especially for the occasion.

Prior to the three-course fundraiser dinner, Diane and Margaret encouraged guests and sponsors to donate as much as possible for the Appeal, having gathered a selection of luxury prizes, included Jo Malone, a £500 Boodles voucher, Yaffé vouchers, a handbag courtesy of Cricket Liverpool while Links of London provided a beautiful bracelet, just a small selection of the top prizes up for grabs, the starlet of the fundraiser was a limited edition silver necklace on a pink ribbon, commissioned by Marina Daglish herself and designed by Boodles; won by Lucy Edwards on the evening.

The evening was a great success thanks to the time and efforts of Dianne and Margaret and all that contributed. Over £5,000 was raised on the night through tickets and the evening’s raffle.

All money raised will go towards building a new Radiotherapy Centre at Aintree & Fazakerley University Hospital, which will bring treatment closer to patients in the city and provide access to key facilities much-needed in handling cancer.

Birkdale resident Marina Dalglish, wife of former Liverpool FC star Kenny Dalglish, set up The Marina Dalglish Appeal in 2004, a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and has since pioneered projects in the region to ensure better facilities for those diagnosed with the illness.

Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, with an MBE awarded in the New Year’s Honours List 2009, as well as accolades for her achievements to date, including raising £1.5 million to build a chemotherapy centre at Aintree University Hospital.
